Securing top placements in modern search engines requires moving beyond traditional directories and third-party index citations. For high-ticket B2B service providers and contract manufacturers, relying on platforms like ThomasNet means losing direct control over customer acquisition. By establishing a unified web of trust signals across your direct domain, enterprise brands can transition from being one option among many to becoming the primary—or sole—recommendation generated by tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. Results demand real metrics, not prolonged agency retainer timelines: establishing dominant AI visibility and ranking in top SERP positions typically takes 60 to 90 days as major LLMs index structured content. Implementing high-integrity content pipelines allows B2B firms to secure direct high-value contract queries while simultaneously capturing traditional search engine traffic.
Moving Past Third-Party Directories to Direct AI Search Recommendations
Stephen: Hundreds of leads that are, again, more trusting, have a higher conversion rate, and are essentially. If you wanna call them an s. An SQL or, an MQL, sales qualified lead, or a marketing qualified lead, that's more of what they're getting is a marketing qualified lead or a sales qualified lead. I would say up to even a few 100 in the first few months, and they're getting them for one monthly service. From us, I'd say the ROI is massive. To me, that math makes a lot of sense. And that's why a lot of my clients are so willing to speak with new prospective clients or to share their experiences or be shared in public case studies because we are serving them in a way that's benefiting them heavily, and we're giving them a massive, massive value for what we're charging them. Moving on to the next question. Why does ChatGPT send buyers to directories like Thomas Net instead of straight to manufacturers, and how do you fix that?
Logan: It's an interesting question that I think is a little bit broken because ChatGPT isn't purely sending people to Thomas Net instead of manufacturers. If ChatGPT cannot find a direct source of a manufacturer or the ThomasNet links are just so much more heavily, verifiable than your website and all of your information, then it's gonna go to Thomas Net.
And then whatever that says, it's gonna it's gonna pull from there. However, if you have created a web of truth, you've created a lot of truth signals and trust signals across the Internet that ChatGPT, Claude Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, etcetera, can pull from, and they can verify that information. They can verify that it's real people in your content, real expertise, experiences, specifications, natural language tone.
Logan: It's said in multiple places across the Internet in a in a similar way and verifying all the same information. Our experience with our clients is that it's not going to pull from Thomas Net. If it does, then you'll likely be one of the recommendations as well. And we're also creating a lot of information that could easily be used on something like Thomas Net or another, another indexing platform. And so I would say if that's you, if your company itself or your competitors are being recommended by ChatGPT, but specifically through another index like Thomas Net or something like that, give us a call or give us an email, and we can get you set up so that, you can have the same results as our current clients where we're not just sending them to another directory.
Logan: We're sending them directly to the client website. And when you send them directly to the client website, you get a lot of information. You get a lot of data to track.
You can see whether or not something you're doing is working. You can track the leads more easily. You can. If you're running any advertisement, a lot of time, you can retarget those people. You can capture email addresses or contact information more easily through lead forms and, and just interacting with your customer more. And you can control the narrative because you can control the text that's on your website and what's being told to them.
Stephen: A big part of this and the last thing that I'll really say before we get done here is that when your next prospective client is asking ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etcetera, who they should use as their next supplier, b to b vendor, or manufacturer, you not only want to be in the shortlist of recommendations, you wanna be the top recommendation or the only recommendation. And on top of that, you wanna make sure that AI search is citing you correctly and is describing you correctly. We had one client that wasn't showing up all the time in AI search. It was very few times showing up in AI search. And when you searched about their company itself, it gave a bunch of information that wasn't correct. It was information about a founder that was previously in another company, and it had merged information about the companies.
Combining Traditional SERP Rankings with AI Visibility
Stephen: And that's a huge issue for a lot of a lot of people because sometimes those companies are competitors. It was a big issue. They no longer have that issue. They're currently the only recommendation, not just in a shortlist. They're the only recommendation, when you ask for their main product or service offering, and, and they're getting a lot of leads and traffic directly from AI search. And it's just because they've been using the Attractify marketing service for about two months now. If that sounds like something of interest to you, if you're a manufacturer, b to b vendor, contract manufacturer, service company, supplier, etcetera, or really any other type of company and you want to show up in AI search, contact us. We're very happy to give you recommendations and to set you up with the Attractify marketing service. Thanks. Have a great day.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does generative engine optimization take to show measurable results?
Most B2B companies see initial rankings and direct AI recommendations within 60 to 90 days. While traditional search indexing happens rapidly, certain LLM platforms and AI agents source and verify new domain data at a slower pace. You should expect top 10 SERP movement and AI citations within this window rather than accepting agency timelines that stretch four to six months without proof of performance.
Why is ChatGPT recommending directory sites instead of my company website?
If an AI model cannot easily verify your direct website as an authoritative source, it defaults to high-trust aggregator platforms like ThomasNet. Overcoming this requires building direct trust signals and structured data across your web assets. Establishing clear, verifiable content allows AI models to cite your primary domain directly rather than routing prospective clients to competitor-heavy directories.
What is the commercial value of AI visibility for contract manufacturers?
For contract manufacturers and industrial B2B vendors, individual contract values often range from $50,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Appearing as the sole recommended supplier for category-level queries directly influences high-intent buyers early in their procurement research, delivering high-ROI pipeline additions from single high-value conversion events.
How does AI engine optimization impact traditional search engine rankings?
AI engine optimization relies on publishing structured, highly authoritative content that search engines like Google and Bing favor. Because the underlying technical foundation requires clear entity relationships and clean indexing, executing an AI visibility strategy naturally drives traditional SERP rankings into top 10 positions alongside generative engine recommendations.
What steps build a reliable web of truth for LLM citation tracking and retrieval?
Building an enterprise web of truth involves publishing deeply specific industry content, structuring technical attributes correctly, and ensuring brand entities are consistently referenced across trusted digital ecosystems. When platforms like Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity cross-reference your industry presence, these consistent signals trigger direct citations in answer engines.
